Medical Marijuana

Introduction

Cannabis (marijuana) is a plant. Like all plants, cannabis contains many active ingredients that work synergistically (together) to achieve the desired effect. The plant contains approximately 60 cannabinoids, as well as terpenes and flavonoids.

These compounds are found in highest concentrations in the glandular trichomes of the flower of the plant, although the leaves and stems also contain some active chemicals. THC- delta-9 tetrahdrocannabinol is in highest concentration in the flower of the plants.

The leaf and stem of the plant predominately contain Cannabidiol (CBD). Unlike THC, CBD does not induce euphoria, but does have anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, anti-psychotic, anti-oxidant, analgesic and neuroprotective properties. Flavonoids are also strong anti-oxidants.
